Why did I do this?

Because we have the the technology...

I know what you're thinking... what the !@#$ is this this?

Well, it first started by me deciding to get my first pet. Something small and easy to take care of. Just to get an idea of what owning a pet was like. So I picked up a dwarf hamster and supplies at Petco on January 14, 2006. Working in biotech, I decided to name my hamster CHO, because it was a female. I'll let you figure out what CHO stands for :-P... hehehe.

So basically, I was annoyed that CHO would sleep all day and seemed to be active in the middle of the night. Sleeping durring the day for 14 hours is normal for hamsters because they are nocturnal. From reading about hamster care, it wasn't healthy for hamsters to be woken up in deep sleep and besides, CHO would bite me if I woke her up. I was interested to find out when she was active and decided to monitor the hamster wheel. And that's how it started.

After some analysis of the data, I thought about programming her sleeping habits by using a desk lamp and timer. I used a full spectrum lamp that simulated the sunlight. I set the timer for 14 hours from midnight to 2pm. Whenever the light is on, she goes to sleep and vice versa. I couldn't believe it. You can see on 2006-1-28, that I didn't use the light and afterwards, she started to wake up when I came back from work. Now I can keep her entertained, feed her, and clean her cage without pissing her off.

I thought it was interesting and decided to share my results.

Once again, I know what you're thinking... This isn't right. That I'm violating my hamster's right to privacy. And yes, I admit it. I have abosolutely no respect for my hamster's right to privacy. Every step she takes and as long as this site is running (no pun intended), she will never feel safe from nosey people like spammers. And all you spammers... please don't spam my ham(ster)... you can at least leave her with what little dignity she has left. After all, I have already published her personal information online, including several paparazzi shots, all for what? ...For the public's simple amusement, at the cost of a hamsters privacy. So spammers, let my hamster enjoy cracking open sunflower seeds and occasional bits of fortune cookies in peace :-P

I hope you enjoy the site and please tell your friends about my twisted mind :-P

Are you still reading? ...Cool. Hopefully, you picked up on my approaches to several topics with great humor. Topics such as technology, vulgarity, hamsters (all varieties), humanity, animal rights (including the non-fuzzy ones), privacy, forced advertising, harassment, Chinese, and anything else that has offended you. I'm not a serious person. If I have offended you, then I'm sorry. By browsing this site, you (the browser) agree that I (the geek) shall not be responsible or liable for any hurt feelings of any sort incurred as the result of any such browsing. ...See that? I just made fun of disclaimers too :-P
